Republique didn't win, but it was a great night of recognition and accomplishment!

The Camouflaj team was at the Unity awards in full force, So the auditorium knew where we were sitting for each of the three categories Republique was nominated for.   :)

Friend's Industry Column at Gamesutra

An old friend and colleague of mine is now a regular contributing columnist at Gamesutra.  There is good industry stuff here, especially if you are a producer.

How to Succeed in the Games Industry: Christine Phelan, Valve at BAF Gam...

A really great talk by Christine Phelan, an animator at Valve, about being an animator in the Games industry.  Really good stuff for students to know in this one.  She does a great job.

Blacklight: Retribution -- PS4 Launch Trailer

The animators at Zombie studio created this PS4 launch trailer for the studio's Black Light Retribution title.  Each animator got to work on his own scene, assembled in UE3 and edited in house.  Mine was the Hard Suite sequence (big robot).

These characters and this universe are fun to work with.

Subject matter for Drawaholics was Planet of the Apes this week.

Thinking about the Apes function of dress, I imagined them creating a primitive armor for their army, building protective plates from their natural surroundings like wood and hemp.  Similar to the Japanese Samurai in the 12th Century.

Whitlatch inspired.

I spent 4 hours on the train back to Seattle after going to see Terryl Whitlatch's seminar.  Inspired, I put pen the paper.  It was nice having the time to do nothing but draw.

Terryl Whitlatch's Jabba the Hut Stories

At Terryl's seminar, she spoke fondly of working with George Lucas on Star Wars The Phantom Menace.  Here she talks about working on Jabba the Hut.  Notice the last sketch in the video and what Jabba's mother is wearing.  I cut the video off too soon.  Terryl said she put her in this outfit to show Jabba had some mommy issues in the Return of the Jedi.

Saw Terryl Whitlach speak in Vancouver last weekend.

Terryl Whitlatch is best known for her creature designs for Lucasfilm, specifically her creature work on the latest Star Wars films.  Studying Paleontology and Zoology in school, she is a master at animal and human anatomy and this helps ground her conceptual creations.  It was an amazing 4 hours!
